Threat Assessment and Management Team
NAU’s Threat Assessment and Management Team (TAMT) is here to help keep our campuses safe by responding to concerning or potentially violent behavior. If you see something troubling, speak up early.
At NAU, keeping students, staff, and visitors safe is a top priority. That’s why we have a special team called the Threat Assessment and Management Team (TAMT) made up of experts from different parts of NAU, including campus police, Human Resources, Student Affairs, and the university’s legal team. Depending on the situation, other professionals might also step in. The team works with local community resources when needed to make sure the response is as helpful and effective as possible.
Reporting concerning behavior
Everyone in our NAU community has a part to play in keeping campus safe, including students and families. If you notice something worrying, like someone acting aggressively or a situation that seems to be getting out of control, it’s important to speak up early. The TAMT relies on people across all our campuses to report concerns so we can help before things get worse.
If experiencing an emergency or urgent workplace violence issue, call 9-1-1 immediately.
Report non-urgent concerning behavior that involves a student
Report non-urgent concerning behavior that involves a faculty or staff member or a visitor
Please include a description of the concerning behavior or incident as well as a your name and contact information where we can best respond.

What the TAMT does
- Determine threat level: TAMT members work as a team to best determine if an individual poses or could potentially pose a threat of violence to others.
- Assist the reporter: TAMT provides assistance to faculty, staff, students, families, and community members who encounter threatening or disruptive behavior.
- Inquire, assess, and take action: After a report has been initiated, the TAMT will collect information, determine whether any appropriate intervention(s) should be taken, and follow up with the reporting party or any parties affected, as appropriate.
Directive from NAU President José Luis Cruz Rivera
“I am delegating broad authority to act in the best interests of NAU to the Threat Assessment Management Team (TAMT). Specifically, the TAMT is authorized and empowered to take immediate action (including interim action) to protect the University community, including but not limited to exclusion from university property, suspension, and placing an individual on administrative leave.“
