Whether you’re heading to class, grabbing coffee with friends, or exploring Flagstaff, you have plenty of ways to get around. The campus shuttle, biking, and Mountain Line offer a quick, reliable, and eco-friendly way to your destination. With so many convenient and sustainable transportation options, getting around NAU has never been easier.

Earth-friendly rides

Many students choose to go car-free thanks to our walkable campus, free campus shuttles, and access to Flagstaff’s Mountain Line bus system.

AXELite campus shuttles

During the academic year, the Louie and Jacks Line campus shuttles operate throughout the day, while the AXELite Evening Route provides service at night. During spring, summer, and winter breaks, AXELite remains the only running route, operating from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with departures from South Campus every 30 minutes. Stay on top of your ride with real-time GPS tracking through the AXExpress Shuttle Tracker or the NAU Mobile App.

A bike-friendly campus

NAU is proudly recognized as a GOLD-ranked Bike Friendly University by the League of American Bicyclists, making it easy to navigate campus using a bike, scooter, or skateboard. With bike racks near most buildings, designated bike lanes, and skateboard racks available at various locations, alternative transportation is convenient. The pedway provides a direct route for all-wheeled riders.

The Yellow Bike Program

The Yellow Bike Program, supported by the Green Fund, provides free bike rentals for students, faculty, and staff. Each rental includes a bike, helmet, lock, and key for up to seven days, with a one-day waiting period before borrowing again. Rentals are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Mountain Line: Your link to Flagstaff

For off-campus adventures, Mountain Line offers a fast, free, and convenient way to travel between Woodlands Village, the NAU campus, and downtown Flagstaff. The free Transit Mobile App lets you track when the next bus will arrive at your stop. You can also purchase a Mountain Line pass for unlimited access to the entire system. With high-frequency service, it’s easy to explore the city without a car.

Additional off-campus transportation options

For travel out of Flagstaff, several transportation services offer convenient options:

  • FlixBus provides affordable intercity travel with comfortable seating and free Wi-Fi.
  • Groome Transportation operates shuttle vans to Phoenix (including Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport) and Tucson.
  • Greyhound offers nationwide bus service.
  • Amtrak provides train routes across the country.

NAU Parking

NAU’s Parking and Shuttle Services makes getting around simple. Students, faculty, and staff who bring a vehicle will need to purchase a parking permit, with options based on where you live and how often you drive.

Visitors can easily find short-term parking in designated lots and garages across campus.
