Sports and athletics
Here at NAU, there is a wide range of opportunities to participate in athletics. With 15 NCAA Division I teams, intramural leagues, sports clubs, and the high-energy 7000s student section, it’s easy to get involved, stay active, and show your Lumberjack pride.
Go Lumberjacks!
The Lumberjack school spirit runs deep and so does our drive to win! We compete in 15 NCAA Division I sports as a member of the Big Sky Conference. The Men’s Cross Country team is a powerhouse, earning six national championships between 2016 and 2022. The Lumberjacks have also claimed four Big Sky Presidents’ Cups and regularly dominate in all-sport competitions, most recently sweeping the men’s and women’s trophies in 2020–21.
Football and basketball games are held in the Walkup Skydome, the second-largest wooden dome in the country, which also debuted a new indoor track in 2024. Other teams compete in high-quality venues like Lumberjack Stadium and the Wall Aquatic and Tennis Center, with golf hosted at local courses around Flagstaff.
