Threat Assessment and Management Team

NAU’s Threat Assessment and Management Team (TAMT) helps prevent violence by assessing and responding to concerning behavior. If you see something troubling, say something.

NAU’s Threat Assessment and Management Team (TAMT) plays a critical role in maintaining safety across our campuses. This multidisciplinary team includes representatives from NAU Police Department, Human Resources, Student Affairs, and Legal Affairs. Depending on the nature of the concern, other specialists may be consulted. TAMT also coordinates with community partners when needed to ensure a timely, effective response.

When to speak up

We all share the responsibility for keeping NAU safe. If you notice disruptive, aggressive, or escalating behavior, whether from a student, colleague, or visitor, it’s critical to report your concerns early. TAMT counts on proactive communication to intervene before a situation becomes dangerous.

What is threatening behavior and what should be reported

  • Threats of violence, stalking, or intimidation that impact the ability of an individual or the university to function.
  • Violent or threatening conduct directed at or involving faculty, staff, students, or visitors.
  • Conduct, which can range from specific direct threats of violence to concerns about being stalked or acts of intimidation, that causes you to be concerned for your safety or the safety of others.
  • Threatening phone calls, emails, or other correspondence

For emergencies or immediate threats, call 911. Call if you can, text if you can't.

How TAMT responds

  1. Assess threats: TAMT works collaboratively to evaluate whether an individual may pose a threat to themselves or others.
  2. Support those who report: Faculty, staff, students, and families can expect guidance and support after reporting a concern.
  3. Take action: TAMT reviews reports, identifies necessary interventions, and follows up with the individuals or groups involved as appropriate.

Doxxing

Doxxing describes when an unauthorized individual accesses your private information and then publishes it, on social media or other public platforms, in an attempt to shame or embarrass you.

Anyone who is experiencing doxxing should consider taking these actions: 1) if they [or you] feel threatened, immediately notify NAU PD and/or local law enforcement, as appropriate; and 2) report non-urgent actions to the university’s TAMT.
