College of Medicine

NAU’s upcoming College of Medicine is being built to meet Arizona’s growing healthcare needs through affordable, in-state training for tomorrow’s doctors.

Arizona will need nearly 2,000 more primary care physicians by 2030.

— UA Center for Rural Health

Rural Arizona has 8x fewer primary care physicians than urban areas.

— Economic Research Service

Arizona currently meets only 39% of its primary care physician need

— UA Center for Rural Health

NAU is creating a new kind of medical school. Opening between 2026 and 2028, the College of Medicine will focus on access, equity, and accelerated learning. The new college will offer Arizona students pathways to graduate with little to no debt and be ready to serve their communities from day one. Built around cultural understanding, behavioral health, and community-focused care, the program will equip future physicians to meet the real needs of Arizona patients.

Accelerated programs

Students will benefit from accelerated, 3-year medical education programs. In addition, NAU offers a 3+3 bachelor’s to MD pathway, making it easier for students to achieve their goal of becoming a doctor in less time.

Teaching-focused

The curriculum emphasizes teaching and practice in areas such as equity, population health, biomedical research, and Indigenous health practices. NAU’s College of Medicine prepares students with a holistic approach, ensuring they are equipped to improve patient care in diverse communities.

Integrated curriculum

Students will engage with a curriculum that incorporates behavioral health, community health, and cultural competency, including Indigenous and Hispanic health traditions. This well-rounded education helps prepare graduates for the diverse healthcare needs in Arizona.
