Turn your AmeriCorps service into college support. If you’ve earned a Segal Education Award, you can use it to help pay for your tuition or qualifying expenses at NAU.

Use your AmeriCorps award at NAU

AmeriCorps members who’ve earned a Segal Education Award can apply it toward tuition, eligible classes or activities (even those that don’t earn credit), or qualified student loans. The award amount depends on the length of your service term and it's a great way to make your commitment to service go even further.

Requesting your AmeriCorps award

Follow these instructions to request your Segal Education Award be used for attending NAU:

  1. Log in to your AmeriCorps account.
  2. Select “Segal Education Award Request.”
  3. Enter Northern Arizona University as your school, along with the term, year, and the amount you want to use. 
    • If you’re requesting a loan payment or forbearance, you must contact your loan provider directly. (NAU doesn't manage your loan.)

After NAU receives your AmeriCorps certification request, NAU certifies your enrollment and returns the info to AmeriCorps. (You must be currently enrolled, or have recently been enrolled, for the term you're requesting the funds for.)

Receiving your AmeriCorps award

AmeriCorps will send half the funds 14 business days after classes begin. The second half is sent 14 business days after NAU’s tuition refund deadline. This means you're responsible for paying tuition and fees upfront. Once the award is processed, any remaining balance on your account sill be paid first. If there's extra, it will be refunded to you.

Once NAU receives the funds, they’re processed by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid within 7–10 business days. You can view your award status at any time in LOUIE.
