First Scholars program

First-generation students thrive with support. NAU’s First Scholars Program offers mentorship, financial aid, and community to help you succeed from your first day to graduation day.

Who can apply?

The First Scholars Program is designed for Arizona students who are the first in their family to attend college. To be eligible, you must:

  • be a first-generation college student (your parents or guardians haven't earned a bachelor's degree)

  • complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and demonstrate financial need
  • be a US citizen or eligible non-citizen as defined by federal law
  • qualify for in-state tuition
  • be willing to participate and engage in the First Scholars program and activities for all four years

We take time to get to know our applicants so be sure to share your story in the application. Tell us about your goals, experiences, and the journey that brought you here.
