Nursing program loans
Upper-level nursing students at NAU may qualify for dedicated loan funding to help with the cost of tuition and clinical training. These loans are limited and based on financial need, so check your eligibility early.
How the Federal Nursing Loan program works
Each year, a limited amount of Federal Nursing Loan funding is available for eligible students of NAU’s Nursing Program. Qualified students may receive up to $8,000 per academic year (split into $4,000 per semester).
To be considered for priority funding, students must:
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by April 1 (no separate application needed beyond FAFSA).
- Demonstrate financial need (as determined by FAFSA).
- Be accepted and enrolled in the final two years of the Nursing Program (Pre-Nursing students are not eligible).
- Be enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours). Concurrent enrollment students must have an approved Consortium Agreement.
- Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Please note: Meeting all the eligibility requirements does not guarantee funding. These loans are awarded based on both need and availability.
Next steps if awarded
If you’re selected to receive a Nursing Loan, you’ll need to complete online entrance counseling and sign your Master Promissory Note (MPN) to officially accept and receive the funds.
You’ll find both steps listed on your LOUIE To-Do List. After signing your promissory note, allow 24 hours before completing entrance counseling so the system can update your checklist.
