Recreation Center

The Recreation Center in the John Haeger Health and Learning Center (HLC) is NAU’s all-in-one wellness hub, combining fitness, academics, and community. It includes two floors of classrooms, the Green Scene Cafe, Essential Blends Juice Bar, four conference rooms, private and semi-private study areas, and a full suite of fitness and recreational amenities for students, faculty, and staff.

Indoor facilities and features

Train, play, or just recharge. The HLC features:

  • 4 basketball courts

  • 38-foot climbing wall
  • 3 fitness studios

  • Cycle studio

Group fitness classes

From yoga and cycling to Zumba and boxing, group fitness classes at NAU are led by certified instructors and open to all experience levels. Gear is provided, just show up and move!

Indoor challenge course

Student groups, faculty or community members can book our indoor challenge course for team building or to experience the thrill of our course. They can do so by emailing outdoors@nau.edu.

Climbing wall

Our 38-foot climbing wall is available to all NAU students at no additional cost, Monday through Friday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Campus Recreation Memberships

Get access to all that Campus Recreation has to offer. Membership details:

  • Flagstaff students: included via student fees
  • CCC2NAU, extended and Online campuses: additional fee
  • Faculty, staff, alumni, affiliate: $187.50 semester rate | $375 annual rate
  • Employee payroll deduction: $18 per pay period, $20 plus a locker | $36 for employee plus partner, $40 plus lockers
  • Public: $12.50 day pass

Employee payroll deduction memberships

Employees can sign up for a membership through payroll deduction, allowing payments to be disbursed across multiple pay periods. All payroll deduction (PD) purchases must be completed in person. To be eligible, employees must be benefit-eligible before enrollment and during the entire deduction period.

Semester memberships

The following guidelines apply to semester-based memberships during the academic year:

  • Available any time during the semester
  • Valid for the current semester only
  • Pay in full by card or check
  • Half-price after week 8 of the semester
Annual memberships

The following details apply to memberships purchased on an annual basis:

  • Start any time
  • Good for one full calendar year
  • Paid in full at purchase
  • No prorated pricing available

Looking to get started with personal training?

Here’s what you need to do: Fill out a client intake form. Within 2 business days, our fitness manager will review your form and get in touch with you. Once you’re assigned a trainer, they will reach out to schedule a free consultation. During this consultation, you’ll discuss your goals and complete any necessary paperwork.

Wall Aquatic Center

AquaJacks Group Swim Lessons Program

Group swim lessons taught by certified instructors and tailored to each child’s pace and comfort level. Parent participation is required for kids under 5.

There are multiple levels of swim lessons, including:

  • Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills. Students will learn how to feel comfortable in the water and safely enjoy it.
  • Level 2: Fundamentals of Aquatic Skills. Children will learn basic swimming skills.
  • Level 3: Stroke Development. Additional guided practice will help students improve their skills.
  • Level 4: Stroke Improvement. Kids will gain confidence during swim lessons, improve their stroke and gain additional aquatic skills.
  • Level 5/6: Stroke Refinement and Skill Proficiency. Guidance allows kids to refine their strokes and become more efficient swimmers. Students will learn to swim with ease and efficiency, and gain the ability to swim smoothly over greater distances.

Monthly program fees are charged automatically to a credit card on-file:

  • One lesson per week: $55.00
  • Two lessons per week: $90.00
  • Three lessons per week: $125.00
  • Four lessons per week: $150.00

South Field Complex

Located at Pine Knoll Dr. and South Huffer Ln., the South Field Complex includes:

  • Two lit artificial turf fields
  • Sand volleyball courts
  • 18-hole disc golf course

Outdoor Adventures

Looking for an exciting adventure in nature? Outdoor Adventures has everything you need to make your next outing unforgettable.

Trips

From biking and hiking to rappelling, camping, and kayaking, Outdoor Adventure trips have it all. Level up you NAU experience with a wide range of explorations happening every weekend during the school year. Trips are available to students and faculty/staff.

Equipment rentals

No gear? No problem. NAU's Outdoor Adventures can hook you up with everything you need—from tents to snowshoes—to make the most of Northern Arizona's trails, slopes, and starry nights. Swing by the HLC during open hours and rent what you need on a first-come, first-served basis.

Intramural sports

Stay active and social with intramural leagues and tournaments open to every skill level. A semester play pass is required to participate.

Lumberjack Recreation Camp

Looking for summer activities for your kids?

Look no further! Our camp educates and entertains children entering Kindergarten through eighth grade for nine weeks in the summer. We provide a fun and friendly environment where your children can take part in safe, high-quality activities led by well-trained and knowledgeable staff across the NAU campus. Our enthusiastic camp leaders create engaging and non-traditional program opportunities that are sure to enhance your children’s summer, and are all grade and age-appropriate. Since we are a college campus, we can provide niche programming with access to academic departments, premiere athletic facilities, and all other campus resources.
