Steps to apply: transfer student

NAU makes it easy to bring your credits with you, and even easier to feel like you belong. Explore your next chapter with flexible programs, expert support, and a welcoming campus community.

Submitting your application: A step-by-step guide

1. Know if you're eligible

You’re a transfer student if you’ve completed 12 or more college credits after graduating high school (not including dual enrollment). Have fewer than 12 credits? Start with our first-year student admission path.

2. Review admissions requirements

You're eligible for admission if you meet one of the following requirements:

  • completed an AGEC-A, AGEC-B, AGEC-S, or IGETC curriculum with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • earned an associate degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • completed 24 or more transferable college credits with a minimum GPA of 2.0
  • completed 12–23 transferable credits with a college GPA of 2.0 or above and a core high school GPA of 2.0 or above

Note: If you’ve completed an AGEC, IGETC, or CSUGE, you’ll have satisfied NAU’s lower-level general education requirements but you’ll still need to complete upper-division writing and major-specific courses.

3. Learn about the 2NAU progam

Still earning your associate degree? The 2NAU program gives you a clear path from partner community colleges to NAU, with personalized advising and access to NAU resources from the start.

4. Apply for financial aid

Start by submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as it's available in the fall. NAU’s priority filing date is April 1. (You'll complete this application for financial aid each year you are enrolled to remain eligible for financial aid.)

You can complete your FAFSA before applying to NAU, just be sure to use NAU's school code: 001082.

Undocumented students who are ineligible to complete the FAFSA can complete the CSS profile using NAU school code 4006.
