That’s why we’ve got an awesome study abroad program to help you explore new places, experience different cultures, and make unforgettable memories while earning credits. Studying abroad enables you to earn credits toward your degree program without delaying graduation.

Ways to study abroad at NAU
- Exchange programs for NAU students – NAU’s exchange programs offer students the opportunity to study abroad at partner universities while paying regular NAU tuition.
- Private provider programs – In addition to NAU’s programs, students can explore private provider programs, which offer more flexible and structured study abroad options through external organizations.
- NAU-led programs – NAU faculty-led programs are programs designed and led by NAU instructors for NAU students. Non-NAU students are welcome to apply for NAU-led programs.
- International internship, research, and volunteer opportunities – NAU helps students find international internship, research, and volunteer opportunities that align with their academic and career goals.
- National Student Exchange (NSE) – The National Student Exchange allows students to study for a semester or year at over 200 universities across the U.S., Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, while paying regular NAU tuition or in-state rates.
- Online experiences – NAU students have the opportunity to have an international experience, earning credit without leaving your home.
- Interdisciplinary global programs – Your global career starts here. NAU’s award-winning Interdisciplinary Global Programs combines your degree in a STEM field, business, hospitality, or psychology with language and culture studies to give you an interdisciplinary education. You’ll graduate with two degrees in 4.5 – 5 years, including a year abroad completely immersed in a culture and often, language.
- Dual degree exchange programs – NAU students have the opportunity to maximize their academic program by earning an international dual degree at NAU and one of NAU’s international partners.

NAU offers scholarship opportunities to help students afford studying abroad. Whether you’re going for a semester, a summer, or just a few weeks, there are funding options available to make your international experience more accessible.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program – The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program (Gilman Program) supports students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, providing them with skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity.
