Start where change begins
Centered on people and purpose
Our programs help you become a leader who listens, learns, and acts. You’ll study social systems and human behavior while building the communication, cultural understanding, and critical thinking skills the world needs. At SBS, you’ll focus on real-world issues like justice, equity, mental health, and education, while preparing to make an impact in the lives of individuals, families, and communities across Arizona and beyond.
Learn through experience, supported by experts
Small class sizes, dedicated faculty, and personalized guidance create space for mentorship and collaboration. You’ll learn from instructors who are actively shaping their fields, and who are committed to helping you find your path. With internships, research projects, field placements, and study abroad options, your education goes beyond the classroom. You’ll build experience aligned with your goals and graduate ready to lead.
Create inclusive communities through the Institute for Human Development
NAU’s Institute for Human Development supports people with disabilities through research, advocacy, and education. As a student, you’ll have opportunities to gain experience in inclusive practices, participate in applied research, and contribute to building stronger, more equitable communities.
Serve your community through the Center for Service and Volunteerism
Get involved in meaningful service that strengthens communities. Through the Center for Service and Volunteerism, students partner with local schools, nonprofits, and national service organizations, turning time and talent into real impact.

I chose NAU because there was a smaller student population than the other public universities. I stayed at NAU because of the community that forms at a smaller university. I also had excellent professors and an opportunity to pursue a degree that has allowed me to help other people throughout my career.
